2023 Social Media Trends and Statistics

Social Media Trends and Statistics

When making a year’s roundup, there are always new things, features, and technology that changed the social media game (even a little bit). Last year, AR (augmented reality) and AI (artificial intelligence) began to take off, while many security breaches that happened were at the center of attention of the entire digital industry.

When it comes to social media for businesses, every company must have a social media marketing plan. These are the trends and statistics you should pay attention to when creating your 2023 plan or altering your old program that has proven successful.

2023 Trends to Watch

  • More focus will be on Google My Business.
  • Since the Go Live feature first introduced to Facebook, there have been more than 3.5 billion live videos. This trend has been around for some time now, but it’s only getting started.
  • The Stories feature will also keep gaining popularity. Online audiences have the “fear of missing out,” and the mixed media of Stories enables content creators to craft content that viewers will connect with more easily. This year, focus on mastering the vertical material of Stories.
  • Video marketing is not solely on YouTube anymore, as it conquered Facebook and Instagram as well. Instagram launched IGTV to support long-form videos, which showed us that video is evolving.

Social Media Statistics for 2023

YouTube

There are 30 million daily active users on YouTube. It’s the second most popular search engine (after Google), and many of its users go to YouTube to find solutions to their problems with school, work, or hobbies. As for U.S. teens, 96% of them watch YouTube videos. YouTube reaches more viewers aged 18-49 than any TV network. About 70% of total watch-time comes from mobile devices,

Facebook

Since 2016, the number of U.S. adults on Facebook hasn’t increased or decreased. When it comes to popularity, Facebook fell behind YouTube in 2018. The number of Indian adults on Facebook has surpassed the number of U.S. adults. Since 2012, the number of users older than 65 has doubled, and about 41% of older Americans are active on Facebook. As for the teens, only half of them are active on Facebook. When it comes to purchasing habits, about 78% of the American Facebook users have discovered something to buy via Facebook. It’s the most popular platform for small businesses (86% of them are present there.)

Instagram

There are 121 million users in the U.S. alone, while the number of people using Instagram on a monthly basis is 1 billion. Instagram is perfect for connecting with international audiences. In the States, 59% of Instagram users are younger than 30, while 72% of teenagers are active there every day. The average use of the Instagram app is from 25 to 32 minutes per day. There are more than 50 billion photos shared on Instagram, and the platform is the second most popular social media platform for small businesses.

LinkedIn

Out of 562 million members, only 260 million are active on LinkedIn monthly. Only 9% of Americans with just a high-school education are present on LinkedIn, while about a half of college-educated people are registered there. Approximately 40 million users are in the decision-making positions, while 61 million of them are senior-level influencers. More than 90% of executives use it as a source of valuable content, but only 1% of them post content regularly. Around 80% of B2B leads come through LinkedIn.

Twitter

With more than 320 million monthly active users, about 24% of U.S. adults are present on Twitter. Between 2017 and 2018, their daily active users grew about 9%. The highest demographic of users on Twitter are people aged 18-29 (40% of this population is active on Twitter.) There is only 8% of those older than 65. Around 80% of users access Twitter via the mobile app. When it comes to small business use, Twitter is the fourth most popular social media platform.
